I recently read in a post by @sojagram a quote from Jacob Hemphill, the lead singer. He said, "I want to speak for people who don't have microphones, our goal as a band is to stick up for the human race. We see the world and we try to make it better in the limited time we have." Then they went on to describe how that is the philosophy of the band. What this did was remind me how we truly got here, I have explained how we got here financially, but not really mentally. Jt and I have been falling in love with the reggae culture since about 2009. Previously we had listened to the great Bob Marley and Sublime, but that was about the extent. In 2009, we were introduced to Rebelution and from that day forward our lives would never be the same.
The words that these bands like Rebelution, Soja, Through The Roots, Dirty Heads, The Green, etc. put together in order to craft not just music but an awakening is something I will always admire. This is because their music has done just that for us, it has awakened our souls to see the world around us through a different lens. A lens that does not just focus on our direct surroundings, but a much bigger picture. Music filled with passion, creativity, purpose, motivation, and inspiration is what these bands release. In a world that is so superficial, it is impossible not to respect and admire their honesty and courage. Their music has put into perspective for us what is really important in life. It has showed us that helping and supporting others should be the essence of life. It has made us realize that we don't need more things, but we need more love, compassion, and experience in life.
I could go on an on about this topic for days, but I won't. I'm sure many of you have noticed the quotes that I put at the end of all our blog entries. They are inspiring words of these guys and you are sure to see much more of that in the future because their wisdom is endless. They will always be a part of the School of Life Bus because they are such a large part of who we are as individuals. We will support them indefinitely because we could never repay them for the good they have brought to our lives and the lives of many others.
On our great journey of life in the bus, we hope to continue to feed our souls and make the world a brighter place for those we meet along the way. We look forward to getting more involved in the world and lending a helping hand where we can, that is something we both feel very passionate about, but have not gotten to do much of in our current lifestyle.
